“La belle vie”. Meaning, “the good life”.
Sacha Distel sings this simple phrase almost as a contemplative sigh as if he was slumping down on a reclined chair one afternoon, coming to this revelation of “la belle vie”. He repeats this phrase and motif throughout the song. The whimsical high melodic lines of the piano reinforces the idyllic idea of “la belle vie” being like a dream. They make your soul sore carefree in the clouds!
As Sacha’s song of whimsical dreams draws to a close, he tells his lover to then wake themselves up, “réveille-toi”. He then says, “je serai là”, meaning he’s going to be there for them. I think that through him, their dreams of “la belle vie” can be realised.
